Dél-Alföldi (southern- Lowland)

 

This sunny region of Hungary with sunny untouched areas. One of the ancient flora- and fauna and gastronomic specialties provide a lot of excitement and adventures voor the visitors. After your stay in Del-Alföldi you will return homeward with a lot of positive impressions.

The tourist, driving unaware on the highway, will see the city of Kecskemét halfway between Budapest and Szeged. When you cross the Danube river by Dunafölvár, you can enjoy the beauty of nature in this area.

This Del-Alföldi, or Pusta, is not quite a dull area, but has many beautiful outlooks. With a little luck you can see, like in America on the prairie, a Fata Morgana: upside down visions of the towns at the horizon.

Did you know that almost all folk-art objects and gastronomic specialties, known in countries abroad as typical Hungarian, are from this area or the traditions from here. Szegeder bellpepper, the folk-art from Kalocsa, like wall paintings and embroidery, the lace from Kiskunhalas, the brandy (Palinka), the onions from Mako, the fish soup from Baja, Csabaer en Gyulaer sausage the wellknown delicatesse, the goose-liver and the light wines from the sandy grounds are the most famous products of this region.

The pusta with its manual operated wells and its many sheep herds is not a daily destination. The protected nature of Hortobägy is known for its animals that have lived here since ancient times. In the national park Little Komenia the horseshows are very worth their while (in Bugac-Apajpuszta-Lajosmitzse).

In the Bugac pusta, where the horsebreeding used to be very important,new pensions and riding-schools are built. Its the fabulous action of pusta five and pusta ten when the Tsikos(horse-driver) drives by on top of five untamed horses. His face is shining of fun and the spectators are in awe.

A visit to Dél-Alföldi is an absolute must voor everyone who is interested in this rare nature. National parks en protected nature-areas like Gemenc, an area between Danube and Dráva. National park of Little-Komenia. National park of Körös-Maros, the valuable Danube and the blonde Tiza. Lake Fèher (White lake) or Lake Kolon, which has the very famous bird population. For the visitors, seeking relief in the wholesome thermal-baths(Kishkunha'as-kiskunmajsa), or only looking for relaxation, or wanting to be active in sports, or interested in going fishing, this area is an ideal place.

Many important monumental art- and buildings, and beautifully layed out parks are to be visited in the bigger cities, like Békescsaba,Kecskemét en Szeged. The cathedral of Szeged and the elegant square in Jugendstyle in Kecskemét, the capitol of the komitát (province) Bács-Kiskun are the most important sights. Not forgetting the most beautiful city-hall of Hungary: the Cifra Palace (Cifrapalota). The theatre Katona Jozsef and the elegant square and city-hall the Dömötör steeple, the Franciscus church, the synagoge and the Mora museum, cities like Békescsaba,Kecskemét and Szeged are worth visiting.
